ADNOC Distribution (the Middle East’s largest fuel and convenience retailer) is a division of ADNOC GROUP, the world’s second most profitable organisation. In December 2017 ADNOC Distribution was publicly listed, the first and only division to do so, instigating a radical transformation of the business from a 47 year old government department to a transparent commercial organisation.

This was a newly created role responsible for planning, developing, implementing and managing the overall digital marketing and communication strategy for the Middle East’s largest fuel and convenience retailer at a most critical time in its history. It was a natural promotion as a result of my previous work as the department’s senior manager.

I planned and implemented the department’s restructure - recruiting and expanding it from 2 to 14 marketing and communication professionals. I was responsible for the marketing strategy and omni-channel planning to build awareness for key campaigns at significant business moments, driving customer acquisition and engagement with our brand, ensuring consistency in tone and aesthetic across all consumer touch points within the UAE and externally.

I led integrated planning to support key business innovations, such as investor relations and loyalty programs, across owned and paid channels, working cross functionally to bring the launch plans to life, and reviewing post-launch performance.

Live reporting systems were built under my direction for C-Suite to access, ensuring total and complete transparency of all digital marketing activity and online presence. In addition, brand awareness monitoring was established across multiple regions, focusing on key customer segments and target audiences.

HEAD OF BRAND & DESIGN - SPECIAL OLYMPICS WORLD GAMES ABU DHABI 2019

Taking place on the 50th anniversary year of the Special Olympics movement, Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 was the largest sports and humanitarian event in the world in 2019, and the biggest event to ever take place in the UAE. The World Games will welcomed 7,500 athletes from more than 190 nations across the globe to compete in 24 Olympic-style sports across 9 venues in Abu Dhabi and Dubai from 14-21 March.

I was tasked with building and developing an internal brand and design team capability to support and deliver all the creative for the largest sporting and humanities event in history - The Special Olympics World Games, which included: 

  • Conceptualising and developing a global brand campaign (#MeetTheDetermined) to promote the world games, as well as the distribution of the campaign across multiple markets. 

  • Production of all advertising assets for TV, radio, print, OOH, digital, and experiential. 

  • Hiring, managing and mentoring a team of 18 creatives across multiple disciplines, including Graphic Design, UX design, UI design, Video Production, animation, event design and photography. 

  • Working closely with large brand partnerships and sponsorship to amplify the event and drive awareness. 

  • Coordinating between Special Olympics Global and the local organising committee on all relevant sign-offs. 

  • Supporting creation of the integrated marketing strategy. 

  • Effective communication and management of senior stakeholders’ expectations throughout the lifecycle of the project, delivering clear and concise insights on a regular basis. 

  • Collaborating internally to distribute the marketing plan process across all touch points, working with experts within the marketing organisation to develop integrated, end-to-end marketing plans.
